UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (Unair) has once again undergone an international accreditation site visit by the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). This accreditation became a part of the institution’s commitment in strengthening its quality assurance system and improving the quality of education to global standards. The study programs involved in the 566th AUN-QA Program Assessment were Applied Bachelor of Radiologic Imaging Technology program, Applied Bachelor of Traditional Medicine program, and Applied Bachelor of Physiotherapy program.
The opening ceremony was held at Amerta Hall, 4th floor of Management Office Building, MERR-C Campus on Wednesday, August 28, 2026. This event attended by the Vice Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs; the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Community Development; the Head of the Quality Assurance Board; directors and heads of relevant work units, the deans of Faculty of Vocational Studies, and the delegation of assessors from AUN-QA led by Assoc. Prof Dr Thanapan Laiprakobsup, Executive Director of ASEAN University Network.
Develop academic quality
Vice Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs, Prof Ir Mochammad Amin Alamsjah MSi PhD welcoming the delegates and appreciating the support given by the AUN-QA assessors on this occasion. “Your presence here is not only to conduct the assessment, but this is also a rare opportunity for us to learn, improve ourselves, and continue to enhance the quality of our academic programs,” he said.
According to Prof Alamsjah, the quality of education has been the main priority which is always being the focus of improvement in UNAIR. He added that UNAIR has been accredited by several international institutions including ASIIN, AUN-QA, ABEST-21, ASIC, FIBAA, and APHEA. “The accreditation of three programs from Faculty of Vocational Studies today marks an important milestone in the university’s journey toward a better quality in education to prepare graduates with professional competencies that meet regional and global standards,” he said.
Momentum to strengthen recognition and impact
On the other hand, the Head of the Quality Assurance Board (BPM) UNAIR, Prof Nurul Barizah SH LLM PhD, highlighted the importance of international accreditation to achieve global recognition. With this international accreditation, she hoped that UNAIR’s study programs are able to be on the same level with other programs internationally.
“Following the certification by AHPGS which is based in Germany, this time UNAIR will be certified by AUN-QA because UNAIR also needs to give the best impact and contribution within ASEAN. Later on, this will make a positive impact for UNAIR’s recognition in the ASEAN and global level,” she explained.
Furthermore, Prof Barizah told the preparation for this international accreditation, like the other international accreditations, which involved various parties within UNAIR. Faculty, study programs, lecturers, staff members, students, alumni, and employers of graduates all play a role in demonstrating the quality implementation in the university environment.
“In principle, the preparation for one national accreditation and the others are approximately similar. This site visit is a part of the process to ensure what we have said in the previous document has already represented the actual study programs, as well as to clarify and to complete what has already been written in the document,” she added.
Supporting vision and impact of the university
She added that at the end of the day, international accreditation is not merely relevant to external recognition. Furthermore, this process is hopefully able to support vision and the impact of the university.
“This accreditation is a part of external quality assurance. As a result, external parties also recognized the high quality of our study programs. This strongly supports our vision and is closely relevant to the global impact of the university. With this accreditation, the public will have confidence in UNAIR’s quality, and we can develop many things with the stakeholders so UNAIR is able to contribute and give more impact,” she said.
On the first day of the accreditation process, the assessors also visited the Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumnus Affairs (PKKA) office to review the support provided to students and graduates to help them transition smoothly to the workplace. The delegation also visited the teaching laboratories of the three study programs at the Hospital of Universitas Airlangga (RSUA) in order to ensure that the students are given the opportunities to gain practical experience in a professional setting.
