UNAIR NEWS – A total of 150 new veterinarians from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), officially took part in their inauguration and oath-taking ceremony as part of the 175th cohort. The event took place on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Arief Rahman Hakim Convention Hall, Surabaya. The ceremony served as a moment to reaffirm the importance of integrity, competence, and responsibility in the veterinary profession.

Lita Rakhma Yustinasari DVM PhD, chair of the organizing committee, said three new veterinarians took part in the ceremony online, as they were currently pursuing further studies in Thailand and serving with the Patriot Expedition Team in Papua.

“Even though they joined the ceremony online, the spirit to serve remained within them. Use your knowledge with integrity and responsibility, so that this profession becomes even more beneficial and meaningful to society,” she said.

Professional responsibility

In his remarks, Prof Ir Mochamad Amin Alamsjah PhD, Vice Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs at UNAIR, said the journey to becoming a veterinarian requires skill, perseverance, and discipline in continuous learning.

“This inauguration is more than ceremonial. It marks a new responsibility and a new trust as a professional. Let the knowledge you’ve gained serve as a foundation for lifelong learning, because the field of veterinary medicine will always continue to evolve,” he said.

In line with this, Prof Dr Lilik Maslachah DVM MKes, Dean of FKH UNAIR, reminded the new veterinarians that their degree represents a trust to be upheld in contributing to the welfare of both animals and humans.

“Don’t stop at feeling proud. Turn that pride into energy to serve. Excellence must go hand in hand with integrity, humanity, and morality. Never trade your integrity for short-term gain,” she said.

Commitment to society

Various social issues call for veterinarians who are intelligent, competent, and act with integrity, a point emphasized by Riski Lesta Mega DVM MSi, in her remarks as a representative of the new veterinarians.

“Wherever we are assigned, may we always be able to contribute to the community. Let’s return to our respective regions with renewed enthusiasm and commitment to serve,” she said.
