UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK) UNAIR strengthening student collaboration networks through the East Java Fisheries and Marine Sciences Student Forum (FORKOM). This forum was held on Sunday, September 20, 2026. This event, which is a part of Airlangga Maritime Week (AMW) series, gathered around 50 students from various universities across East Java. They gathered to exchange ideas, introduce work programs, and discuss student activity development in the field of fisheries and marine.
This forum was attended by student representatives from Universitas Islam Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, Universitas Hang Tuah, Politeknik Kelautan dan Perikanan Sidoarjo, Universitas Dr Soetomo, Universitas Brawijaya, and Universitas Sunan Gresik. Furthermore, seven student organizations (Ormawa) of UNAIR FPK also participated in this activity.
Broaden student’s discussion space
The East Java Fisheries and Marine Sciences Student Forum was initiated as a meeting platform for students from different universities that offer degree programs and focus on the fisheries and marine sectors. Participants came from a variety of academic disciplines, including fisheries processing technology, aquaculture, and marine sciences.
Through this forum, each of the student organizations had the opportunity to present their work programs and activities that had already been carried out. This forum also served as a platform to discuss maritime issues, exchange organization experience, and develop ideas related with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Reyfan, who served as the forum’s student coordinator, stated that this forum was designed to foster communication and collaboration among students from different universities.
“This forum served as a platform to gather students of fisheries and marine sciences from various universities in East Java. Through the exchange of information and ideas, students can develop collaboration potential and design activities that are relevant with the issues of fisheries, marine, and SDGs,” Reyfan explained.
Encouraging collaborative output
Not only focused on discussion, this forum also addressed plans to compile a book documenting student organizations’ activities related to the SDGs and fisheries and marine issues. It is hoped that this output will serve as a reference for work programs development while strengthening the continuity of collaborations among student organizations.
“The plan to compile a book became one of our efforts to archive ideas, experiences, and student contributions from various universities,” he said. Thus, the forum outcomes do not end with the exchange of perspectives, but can be developed into a product that provides a broader benefit.
Reyfan hoped that this student forum will continue to develop with a more refined concept and a broader range of participants. According to him, strengthening student networks must be an ongoing effort so that the collaboration in the field of fisheries and marine can expand to national level.
“In the future, hopefully this forum can be expanded to national level with a more refined concept and involve more universities. This forum was expected to produce meaningful outcomes and encourage student collaborations in developing Indonesia’s fisheries and marine sectors,” said Reyfan.
