UNAIR NEWS – The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), strengthened its collaboration with the Lamongan Regency Government (Pemkab) through a community service program. This commitment emerged at the discussion forum titled “Strengthening Livestock Farming in Lamongan Regency with FKH UNAIR,” held at the Lamongan Regency Pendopo (the regency’s official pavilion) on Tuesday (September 29, 2026). The event marked the first milestone of collaboration between FKH UNAIR and the Lamongan Regency Government, following a community service program that FKH UNAIR previously carried out for communities in Bojonegoro Regency.

FKH UNAIR encourages community economic empowerment

Prof Dr Lilik Maslachah drh MKes, Dean of FKH UNAIR, said the event was a tangible implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in community service. According to her, sending the FKH UNAIR team to Lamongan was the first step toward creating a sustainable impact through the assisted village program. “We hope to make an impact on this assisted village. The inauguration of the assisted village in Klagensrampat tomorrow is also a symbol of strong collaboration between the Lamongan Regency Government and FKH UNAIR,” she said.

Prof Maslachah explained that FKH UNAIR also encouraged the use of livestock aid as a productive enterprise for the community. The program did not stop at providing aid, but continued through mentoring so that the community could develop its livestock potential independently. She also expressed appreciation to the Lamongan Regency Government, alumni, and all partners supporting the program. “For the benefits of this program to be optimal and sustainable, synergy with the local government is needed. We hope our small effort becomes a big step for the people of Lamongan in the future,” she said.

53 FKH UNAIR lecturers mentor Klagensrampat assisted village

Prof Dr Widjiati drh MSi, head of the FKH UNAIR community service program, said FKH UNAIR deployed 53 lecturers for the assisted village activities, including 27 professors, a number that reflects FKH UNAIR’s seriousness in supporting the community. After the discussion forum, the activities continued with the inauguration of the FKH UNAIR Assisted Village in Klagensrampat on Wednesday (September 30, 2026). The village will serve as an FKH UNAIR Assisted Village for two years, with a focus on duck farming development.

Prof Widjiati said FKH UNAIR has distributed 200 female ducks and 1.5 tons of feed as initial support for the Klagensrampat community. Going forward, FKH UNAIR will provide feed and cage support and carry out regular monitoring for two years. “Klagensrampat will become FKH UNAIR’s duck assisted village. We will oversee livestock products from upstream to downstream and keep monitoring them regularly,” she explained. She hoped the entire program would run smoothly and deliver tangible benefits for the community.

Lamongan Regency Government encourages livestock farmers to scale up

Lamongan Vice Regent Dirham Akbar Aksara MSc welcomed the arrival of the FKH UNAIR delegation and expressed appreciation for the university’s support of the food and livestock sectors in Lamongan. He said the collaboration between UNAIR, the Lamongan Regency Government, and farmers could be a space to optimize livestock potential while building community capacity. “Thank you very much to FKH UNAIR for its support of the food and livestock sectors. We hope our synergy grows even stronger,” he said.

Aksara hoped the collaboration would help Lamongan livestock farmers scale up by making the most of their existing potential. Besides productivity, he stressed the importance of community knowledge about livestock health issues as part of strengthening the livestock sector. “I hope UNAIR, the Lamongan Regency Government, and farmers can take farmers to the next level and maximize livestock potential. Farmers also need to be aware of livestock health issues, as a concrete step toward making Lamongan Regency a national protein hub,” he concluded.

Through this series of community service activities, FKH UNAIR continues to strengthen the university’s role in delivering tangible contributions to the community. The knowledge and expertise of members of the FKH UNAIR academic community are not confined to academic spaces, but also reach the community through mentoring, knowledge transfer, and capacity building in the livestock sector. The Klagensrampat Assisted Village Program is one expression of FKH UNAIR’s commitment to developing local potential sustainably, while also promoting community welfare through livestock.
