UNAIR NEWS – Duck farming has become the gateway for the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), to build economic independence for the community of Klagensrampat Village, Maduran District, Lamongan Regency. This step officially rolled out on Wednesday (September 30, 2026) through the inauguration of an Assisted Village, which served as the initial milestone of collaboration between FKH UNAIR and the Lamongan Regency Government. The collaboration will continue through a two-year mentoring program.

FKH UNAIR guides duck farming pilot project

Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Prof Dr Lilik Maslachah drh MKes said the Assisted Village inauguration marks the first step toward building sustainable collaboration between FKH UNAIR, the regional government, and the Lamongan community. The program goes beyond its initial activities, also placing mentoring as a key part of ensuring that the duck farming development initiative can run sustainably.

“We designed this program as long-term mentoring. For two years, FKH UNAIR will continue to work alongside the community together with related agencies. This will help ensure that duck farming can develop through stronger collaboration and the application of appropriate expertise,” Prof Maslachah said.

She explained that the Assisted Village serves as a pilot project designed to generate an impact on the community’s economic independence. FKH UNAIR will continue to guide the program together with related parties to help duck farming potential grow, while also improving the welfare of the Lamongan community. “We want this program to deliver real impact for the community. That’s why strengthening collaboration is essential, so the program can run smoothly and the community’s welfare can improve,” she said.

Lamongan Regent encourages Klagensrampat to become a model village

Lamongan Regent Dr H Yuhronur Efendi MBA MEK welcomed the collaboration as an opportunity to strengthen the farming sector in Lamongan Regency. He said Klagensrampat Village has the potential to become a model for other villages, so that the program’s benefits can expand more broadly. The Lamongan Regional Government, he added, will support the program’s implementation and push for its accelerated development starting next year. “We hope Klagensrampat Village can become a model for other villages. The regional government will support this program, and next year we’ll work on accelerating it,” he said.

Dr Efendi added that strengthening the livestock sector is part of the regional government’s broader effort to establish the region as a national protein hub. He also expressed appreciation to FKH UNAIR for choosing Klagensrampat as the location for the Assisted Village program. He believes the collaboration can provide added value for farmers, so that the benefits they receive continue to grow. “Thank you for choosing Klagensrampat to run this program. Going forward, farmers will gain greater benefits, and we’ll work together to make that happen,” he said.

Through the inauguration of this Assisted Village, FKH UNAIR once again underscored the role of higher education in bringing knowledge and expertise directly to the community. The collaboration in Lamongan Regency is part of FKH UNAIR’s commitment to expanding its contribution through sustainable mentoring, particularly in strengthening the livestock sector and the community’s economic independence. FKH UNAIR’s presence is expected to produce a model of empowerment that delivers real benefits while opening up broader opportunities for collaboration in Lamongan’s community development.
