UNAIR NEWS – Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE) hosted an online seminar on research grants, Airlangga Global Research Initiatives (A-GRI) and Funding Institutional (Platform for Research Grants) on Friday, March 7, 2025. The event featured two speakers: Dr. Astri Dewayani, Ph.D., Coordinator of International Grants and Immigration at AGE, and Prof. Ferry Efendi, S.Kep., Ns., M.Sc., Ph.D., from the Institute for Innovation, Journal Development, Publishing, and Intellectual Property Rights (LIPJPHKI) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR).
Overview of A-GRI
Dr. Astri Dewayani, Ph.D., described the Airlangga Global Research Initiatives (A-GRI) as a flagship program developed by AGE to encourage UNAIR faculty members to engage in collaborative research. “This research collaboration promotes partnerships with international scholars by assisting in the development and submission of research grant proposals under various international funding schemes, excluding matching-fund programs,” she explained.

She further elaborated, “The primary contributors to research proposals must be UNAIR faculty members (both permanent and civil servant lecturers) who are responsible for identifying suitable international research grant schemes, securing international partners, and managing the submission of research proposals and collaborative research agreements.” Dr. Dewayani also recommended several accessible funding sources for UNAIR lecturers, including institutional funding platforms, newsletters, and research grant databases.
International research grant potentials
She emphasized that successfully securing international research grants requires a strategic approach, including defining a specific research field, focus, and identifying targeted specific keywords.
“Researchers should explore global funding platforms such as UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the British Council, and Horizon. It’s also crucial to verify eligibility—does the grant align with your research goals? Subscribing to newsletters for the latest updates and expanding connections with international partners can further increase the chances of securing funding,” she advised.
Funding Institutional
The second speaker, Prof. Ferry Efendi, S.Kep., Ns., M.Sc., Ph.D., provided insights into Funding Institutional, a platform that compiles a wide range of funding opportunities from governmental and non-governmental organizations. This platform offers continuously updated funding data, with more than 5,000 funding opportunities sourced from 80 countries. It includes details on funding sources, donor profiles, summaries, and visualized data on potential funding opportunities. Currently, the database contains approximately 6.7 million funding records.
Prof. Efendi emphasized the significant benefits of Funding Institutional. “This platform offers an extensive range of funding opportunities with diverse and well-documented sources, enabling faculty members to find grants that best align with their research. Exploring international grants is crucial, as they provide comprehensive and varied funding options,” he concluded.
