UNAIR NEWS – AGE (Airlangga Global Engagement) held the 2023 Outbound Mobility Bootcamp program on Saturday, Nov 25, 2023. This program provides training to prepare Universitas Airlangga students to register for international programs.

The keen interest of students in IISMA activities and student exchange prompted AGE to organize an intensive training for two days. Training like this aims to minimize errors and delays in completing registration documents. Moreover, it also prepares prospective applicants to know the selection stages.

“AGE provides mentoring to 120 students who are prospective applicants for IISMA and other international programs. We will also monitor all participants during the application process,” explained Astria Okta Herdiani SIKom, Head of Global Mobility Programs.

The Outbound Mobility Bootcamp was held in the Kahuripan Building, Hall 300, MERR-C Campus. By inviting IISMA awardees for two years in a row, Quindhira Izzanina, the first day of training focused more on the filing stage.

Quin, a FISIP UNAIR Bachelor of International Relations student, explained the importance of preparing registration requirements one month before registration opens.

“Try to start preparing registration documents such as the latest academic transcript, statement letter and English language test from now on. Preparing files in advance like this will make it easier for us when registering for the program,” she explained.

Essay writing

According to Quin, essay writing needs to include the reasons for choosing the program, such as the courses taken and the destination country for international activities. She explained that she wrote the essay not in a personal context but rather for sustainability purposes.

“Don’t write about wanting to exchange to Barcelona or other countries because you have a personal interest in a country. However, explore the potential that exists in that country, for example, cultural aspects, education level and economy. These points can be included in our essay,” she explained.

Quin further explained an essay is a description of an applicant before the interview stage takes place. Therefore, she added, essay writing must be written professionally to convince recruiters.

Course choice

Determining courses for international programs according to Quin is based on individual interests. She suggested taking classes based on interests or adjusting to students’ current majors.

“You can choose courses based on your curiosity about certain learning topics. Starting from this interest can make it easier to understand the material and complete assignments during the study period,” she said.

Quin also encouraged the participants to coordinate course-taking with the department. This coordination makes the credit conversion process easier.

“Each department has different credit conversion policies. Some courses can be converted and those that cannot. Therefore, coordination with departments is needed,” she concluded.
