UNAIR NEWS – Excellence with Morality is no longer unfamiliar among Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) students. However, many of them do not fully understand the philosophical meaning of the motto. Festival Marhaban: Bringing the Qur’an to Student Life provides a platform for students to deepen their understanding of Excellence with Morality and align it with the values of the Qur’an. The event took place on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the 12th Floor Auditorium, Faculty of Law, Dharmawangsa-B Campus, UNAIR.

Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof Dr M Hadi Shubhan SH MH CN, gave a warm welcome. He emphasized that the event was held based on UNAIR’s values. “This event is held in accordance with our values as a university that upholds excellence with morality. After all, what is the point of being excellent if our moral quality is low?” he said.

Dr KH Achmad Roziqi Lc MHI, as the speaker, explained that the proportion between manners and knowledge must be balanced. However, prioritizing manners over knowledge is one form of a believer’s faith.

“For example, if your GPA is low and you consider it not a problem, you are mistaken. Your GPA must be high, but manners must take precedence over knowledge. This is based on the teaching of my senior teacher at the Islamic boarding school (pesantren), that a person must first become a good individual, not just an intelligent one,” said the East Java MUI Fatwa Commission member.

He also noted that, according to the Prophet Muhammad, a smart person is not someone with high academic degrees. Rather, a smart person is someone who resists worldly temptations and maintains focus on the life after death.

In line with the advice to prioritize manners over knowledge, the Qur’an serves as a guide for Muslims and a remedy for worldly anxiety. Dr. Roziqi emphasized that a believer should never lose hope over worldly matters. “A believer’s character should not collapse just because of a worldly matter,” he said.

He also stated that Allah tests human faith through the Qur’an, as the solution to all worldly problems is to draw closer to Allah. “Allah has already given us the Qur’an as guidance in life. When Allah tests us, He actually wants us to turn to Him and seek answers to the problems we face,” he explained.

After participating in the event, students are expected to gain guidance for navigating worldly life while maintaining faith in the afterlife. Involving Allah in all worldly and spiritual matters will enhance human morality.
