UNAIR NEWS – In the grand sports event of SEA Games 2021, the student of the four-year vocational Traditional Medicine study program, Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Alisya Mellynar, managed to bring home a gold medal in wushu in women taolu taijiquan art number category on Saturday, May 14, 2022, in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Alisya was proud and emotional, though she did not feel confident earlier. However, she managed to instil positive words in herself.
“Before I entered, I tried to soft talk, ‘Alis is sure, Alis can do it, Alis can do it cleanly,’ I just repeat those words,” stated Alisya, as reported by Tempo.co.
The wushu athlete from Surabaya was able to perform calmly in front of the jury, which brought her to gain 9,71 points. “A point that was exceeding expectation because this is my debut in a sports event in a Southeast Asian country,” she explained.
The vocational student of UNAIR mentioned that she wanted to follow her senior’s path. Before competing in SEA GAMES, she used her time to consult about her performance.
“I really want to continue the achievement of ex-wushu taolu athlete Lindswell Kwok,” Alisya revealed.
Suggestions from seniors, including from Lindswell, helped her in mental preparation. “There would be many obstacles when you decided to reach your dreams, but it does not mean that you cannot make it happen,’’ she wrote on her Instagram account @alisyaa25.
Alis has made various achievements, both nationally and internationally, including in Junior and Senior National Championship in Semarang 2017, President Cup and King Sultan Hamengkubuwono X Cup in Special Region of Yogyakarta 2018, National Sports Week (PON) XX in Merauke, Papua 2021, a gold and silver in International Borneo Martial Arts Open in Sibu, Malaysia 2017. In addition, she won two golds in the 3rd World Taijiquan Championships, Burgas, Bulgaria, 2018.
On to this achievement, some figures expressed their high appreciation, including the head of IKA UNAIR Dra Hj Khofifah Indar Parawansa Msi.
“Congratulations to Alisya Mellynar, Alumna of SMAN 2 Surabaya, who is currently studying in UNAIR. Thank you for the hard work in achieving a gold medal in SEA Games, providing the best achievement to Indonesia,” quoted from Khofifah’s official Instagram account.
Furthermore, Vice Dean I of Faculty of Vocational Studies UNAIR, Dr Tika Widiastuti SE MSi, emphasized that her students are superior in academics and non-academics. There is also various support from UNAIR to increase student achievements.
“We have Student Companion Team (TPM) in charge of assisting, fostering, and optimizing all student potential with Student Organization supervisors,” she stated during the interview with UNAIR NEWS on May 19, 2022.
Besides moral support, UNAIR also supports materially and other convenience in budget allocation of incentives as a form of student stimulus to make achievements.
“Regulation of course schedule and exam is also specially provided for athlete students,” added Vice Dean I.
