UNAIR NEWS – Approaching the 2024 ICAS Conference, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNAIR hosted a visit for the International Institutes for Asian Studies (IIAS) Leiden University at the Museum of Ethnography on Wednesday, March 7, 2023.

“A big conference of ICAS is going to be held next year. Our colleagues from Leiden University is one of the partners from a new center at UNAIR, the Airlangga Institute for Indian Ocean Crossroad. It’s a collaborative partnership of the Faculty of Humanities (FIB), the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), the Faculty of Medicine (FK), and the Faculty of Public Health (FKM),” said Lina Puryanti SS MHum Ph.D., the Vice-Dean III of the Faculty of Humanities Universitas Airlangga.

The museum visit is one of the follow-ups to the program they previously discussed at the Hotel Bumi Surabaya in February. The representatives of Leiden University had previously welcomed by Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Digitalization, and Information, Prof. Muhammad Miftahussurur dr. MKes SpPD-KGEH Ph.D. FINASIM and other leaders at the Management Building of UNAIR. Leiden University and African representatives are some of the partners in the Airlangga Institute for Indian Ocean Crossroad.

She believed their visit to the Museum of Ethnography FISIP UNAIR is a good step in welcoming the ICAS Conference next year. Hosting ICAS Conference is an honor for Universitas Airlangga.

“This is really good. It means, we have something unique. I believe UNAIR is not in the 4th rank anymore. It’s number one on our own. ICAS is one of the world’s biggest conferences, which is usually held by top universities in Kyoto, Kuala Lumpur, Berlin, the US, and Hawaii last time. Next year, UNAIR Surabaya will get the honor [to host]. It’s a huge trust for UNAIR,” she said.
