UNAIR NEWS – Students from Universitas Airlangga participating in the BBK 7 program in Melirang Village carried out an initiative to enhance the performance of the village Posyandu (Integrated Healthcare Post). The program was implemented in collaboration with the local Puskesmas Pembantu (Pustu) and included community outreach on the prevention of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). The effort aimed to improve the quality of public health services, particularly for mothers, young children, and the elderly, while also increasing awareness of the importance of preventing infectious diseases.

The activities included assisting with Posyandu operations, recording body weight and height, delivering nutrition education, and providing basic health screenings such as blood sugar and blood pressure checks. The program also featured dengue prevention counseling that emphasized the 3M Plus strategy as a primary preventive measure. Residents were further educated on the early signs of dengue fever and the initial actions that should be taken if cases are detected in their neighborhood.

The initiative involved BBK Melirang students, healthcare personnel from the Pustu, and residents of Galalo Hamlet as Posyandu participants. This cross-sector collaboration is expected to strengthen the role of Posyandu as the frontline of village-level healthcare services. The Posyandu activities were held at a resident’s home in Galalo Hamlet during the current BBK 7 period and were attended by local community members. The level of participation reflected strong public concern for family and environmental health.

The program supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, Good Health and Well-being, through promotive and preventive health efforts. Enhancing Posyandu services and conducting dengue prevention outreach represent concrete steps toward improving community health standards. A healthcare worker from the Pustu noted that the involvement of BBK 7 students had a positive impact on the program’s implementation.

“Through Posyandu activities organized by the Pustu, healthcare services can reach the community more effectively through basic health monitoring. In addition, the presence of BBK 7 students from Universitas Airlangga has been highly beneficial in supporting Posyandu operations and improving public understanding of dengue prevention,” the health worker said.
