UNAIR NEWS – The Learning with Community (BBK) 7 of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is promoting interest in learning English through a program titled Bright Kids, held on Friday (January 9, 2026). The initiative aims to increase enthusiasm for foreign language learning among elementary school children in Mojoasem Village, Sidayu Subdistrict, Gresik Regency.

“We want to introduce English learning to children in Mojoasem, especially since interest in foreign languages here remains relatively low. That is why we initiated an interactive learning approach,” said Freean Putra Pandudewanata, coordinator of the Bright Kids program, on Monday (January 12, 2026).

Pandudewanata emphasized that the program is designed to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the goal of quality education. A fun learning approach, featuring interactive games and vocabulary quizzes, was chosen to help elementary school students absorb the material more easily.

The interactive methods proved effective, as reflected in the positive response from the children in Mojoasem. “The children were very enthusiastic and participated actively until the end of the session. Most of them were also able to remember the vocabulary that was introduced,” Pandudewanata added.

Pandudewanata noted that there were no significant obstacles during the preparation or implementation of the Bright Kids program. On the contrary, he praised the children’s enthusiasm, as they continued to attend the activity despite it being held at night and under rainy conditions.

“There were no major challenges, only external factors such as heavy rain during the event, but that did not dampen the children’s enthusiasm. Aside from that, a few children were occasionally difficult to manage, but that is quite normal,” he said.

The successful implementation of Bright Kids has sparked new hope for increasing learning motivation in Mojoasem. This was evident in the enthusiasm expressed by the children after the session.

“The children in Mojoasem are highly motivated to learn, and they even expressed a desire for similar activities to be held again. We hope Bright Kids can serve as a catalyst for their learning interest. More broadly, we hope it instills the idea that learning English can be fun,” he concluded.
