UNAIR NEWS – Free INAVAC vaccine shots were offered to general public for the first time to celebrate 78th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia on Thursday, August 17, 2023. The vaccine made by Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has received use authorization by the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM).

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih SE MT Ak said the Independence Day celebration is the right moment to maintain economic revival. “The Independence Day celebration this time is a momentum for economic revival which is getting better, and it must be maintained. In any challenges, the community’s activities and economy must be able to run,” said UNAIR Rector.

Therefore UNAIR initiated free INAVAC vaccine shot service for the public. It also collaborates with UNAIR Hospital. “UNAIR took the initiative to improve vaccine achievements, so that people’s resilience can be maintained,” he said.

Urge people to get vaccination immediately

Prof. Nasih appealed to all people who have not done the Covid-19 vaccine, either the first or booster doses, to get INAVAC vaccine immediately. “To get good body resistance and immunity, we urge people who have not got vaccine shots or boosters to get INAVAC vaccine for free,” the rector ordered.

The INAVAC vaccine is currently intended for ages 18 and over. Prof. Nasih added that the INAVAC vaccine is in Phase 3 clinical trials before eligible for adolescents and children. “For teenagers and children, it is still in Phase 3 of clinical trials. Hopefully, the results will be good,” he added.

He emphasized that UNAIR is ready to meet people’s demand regarding vaccine stocks. “No matter how much (INAVAC vaccine, ed) is needed, we will prepare them. We want the community to have good immune resistance so they are strong when there is a threat because they have been vaccinated,” explained Prof. Nasih.

Meanwhile, Rahmadanti, a vaccination participant, said that she chose the INAVAC vaccine as a booster because she believed in the quality of the vaccine made by UNAIR. “I haven’t had a second booster yet, so I haven’t been completely protected. I believe UNAIR’s vaccine is safe to use,” she concluded. (*)
