UNAIR NEWS – Dr. Marta Ulbrych of Krakow University of Economics in Poland recently visited Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) from May 12 to 16, 2025, as part of the Erasmus+ K171 teaching mobility program. Her visit highlighted the growing importance of international collaboration in higher education and left a strong impression of both the academic and cultural environment in Indonesia.

While teaching at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Dr. Ulbrych engaged with economics students through lectures and thesis consultations. She described her experience as “very positive,” noting that the students were highly engaged and created a dynamic and enjoyable learning environment. Their motivation and eagerness to learn stood out, particularly during in-class discussions and one-on-one consultations.

“One of the most memorable parts of my visit was the students’ active participation in both discussions and thesis consultations. Their dedication and intellectual curiosity were truly impressive,” she said. She also described her meeting at UNAIR’s European Center as especially inspiring and one of the highlights of her time on campus.

Though UNAIR’s academic structure shares similarities with her home institution in Poland, Dr. Ulbrych noted several differences that added depth to her experience. “I was especially impressed by the excellent organization and the warmth and openness of both faculty and students,” she commented.

Beyond her academic responsibilities, Dr. Ulbrych also had the chance to explore Surabaya and nearby areas. She visited notable destinations like Mount Bromo and Madura Island, experiences that allowed her to immerse herself in the natural beauty and cultural richness of East Java. These excursions, she said, deepened her understanding of the local context and made her visit even more memorable.

Reflecting on her professional and personal growth during the program, Dr. Ulbrych emphasized the value of international teaching mobility in expanding academic networks and gaining broader cultural perspectives. She encouraged other faculty members to pursue similar opportunities. “I urge others to embrace cultural diversity and remain open to academic exchange. It’s a great chance for personal development as well.”

Dr. Ulbrych expressed a strong desire to return to Indonesia. “Absolutely, I would love to come back to Indonesia and Universitas Airlangga someday,” she said.

Her visit exemplifies the profound impact of international academic mobility—not only in strengthening global academic partnerships but also in fostering meaningful cross-cultural understanding.
