UNAIR NEWS – The Electric Vehicle On Study (EV-OS) team from Universitas Airlangga’s Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM) took part in the PLN ICE (Innovation and Competition in Electricity), a prestigious competition organized by PT PLN. The event was held as part of the 2025 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) Surabaya, officially launched on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Grand City Mall in Surabaya.

The participation of EV-OS in the PLN ICE event highlights UNAIR’s ongoing commitment to innovation and the advancement of electric vehicle (EV) technology in Indonesia. The platform allowed university students to showcase their research-driven breakthroughs and real-world applications in EV development.

As a student-led research and development community under FTMM, the EV-OS team continues to push boundaries in renewable energy, with a specific focus on electric vehicles. EV-OS stands as a pioneering group within UNAIR, producing a series of competitive and innovative EV prototypes that have earned national recognition.

Since its formation in 2022, EV-OS has created several advanced prototypes, including Byson Electric (By-E), SAGA (Sport Ability in Green Advantage), ESA (Electric Scooter Airlangga), and ALERTA (Airlangga Electric Kart). Two standout models—the electric go-kart and electric sport motorcycle—demonstrate the team’s ability to design functional and market-ready vehicles.

EV-OS’s achievements continue enhance Indonesia’s electric vehicles landscape and reflect national efforts to promote cleaner transportation solutions. Team member Ikhsani noted that SAGA was developed as a high-performance electric motorcycle aimed at everyday use and endurance.

“SAGA is powered by an 84V/45Ah battery and a 3,000-watt motor, giving it an impressive range of up to 118 kilometers on a full charge. It can also reach a top speed of 170 km/h,” explained Ikhsani.

Alongside SAGA, the team also introduced ALERTA at IIMS Surabaya. This electric vehicle is powered by a 72V/40Ah battery and a 3,000-watt motor. “It has a range of up to 88 kilometers per charge and can reach a maximum speed of 80 km/h. We envision ALERTA as a practical, eco-friendly vehicle for daily use,” Ikhsani added.

During the exhibition, EV-OS highlighted several notable achievements. In 2023, they won first place in the Electric Motorcycle Design category at PLN ICE with the SAGA project. The following year, they secured second place in the Electric Go-Kart Design category and third place in the Race category. “These accomplishments reflect the team’s dedication to producing innovative, high-performance electric vehicles that are both practical and competitive,” said Ikhsani.
