UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga ( UNAIR ) never stops making extraordinary achievements. Another achievement just came from the Electrical Vehicle On Study Team (EV-OS Team) Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline ( FTMM ) UNAIR. The team won first place in the PLN Innovation and Competition in Electricity (ICE). The competition was held at the Sentul International Circuit, Bogor, West Java, and the final competition was from Wednesday, Nov 8, 2023 to Thursday, Nov 9, 2023.

The PLN ICE competition series consists of the proposal curation process, conceptual exposition selection, and the electric motor vehicle prototype construction stage. The EV-OS team successfully passed the proposal curation and conceptual exposition phase by eliminating 55 applicants from universities throughout Indonesia. The team, which deserves the title of “Renewable Energy Pioneers”, sent two teams, the SAGA Team with the concept of a sport touring motorbike and the ESA Team with the urban city concept.

To UNAIR NEWS, Muhammad Syahril Mubarok PhD as supervising lecturer explained the proud innovation of the two teams. The SAGA team carries the concept of “Sport Ability in Green Advantage” which is in line with SDGs 7, affordable and clean energy.

The SAGA Team concept is in line with the mission to support the reduction of exhaust emissions from oil-fueled vehicles. The team’s advantages include battery life of up to 118 km, top speed reaching 130 km/h, and use of the Battery Management System (BMS) feature. Moreover, there is a GPS feature that can be controlled via smartphone to improve the user experience.

“Meanwhile, the ESA Team comes from Electric Scooter Airlangga. ESA, which means one, refers to its status as the first and only electric scooter with timing gear developed by the EV-OS Team. The ESA team was able to bring new innovations to two-wheeled electric vehicles by implementing a covered multi-ratio drivetrain,” explained the FTMM electrical engineering lecturer.

In the final stage, nine prototypes from various universities competed with each other in the final report presentations, Domestic Component Level (TKDN) expositions, dyno tests, and long range tests of 25 km for 30 minutes. The two electric iron horses SAGA and ESA were able to achieve very satisfying performance by proving the superiority of creativity amidst the intensity of competition.

Putu Anom Kornakata Permana as a representative of the EV-OS Team explained that intensive preparations have been underway since June 2023. The main focus has been on in-depth research, innovative designs and a series of component tests to ensure optimal performance.

“Our team worked hard to formulate strategies, overcome deficiencies, and ensure that every element was precise,” said Anom.

The proud results obtained by the EV-OS Team through the SAGA Team succeeded in outperforming teams from well-known universities such as UII, ITS, ITB, UGM, and UNSRI. Syahril hopes that similar competitions can continue to be held as a forum for the nation’s children to explore innovation and present inspiring research results.
