UNAIR NEWS – Students of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) have shown their excellence in an international competition. It was the Airlangga International Conference (AIC) 2022, which was organized by the External Affairs Division UNAIR Student Executive Board (BEM) Reform Cabinet on December 3-5 at GKB MERR (C) Campus UNAIR.

A Gala Dinner was held at Choice Hotel Surabaya for the final appreciation night. Students from various countries have participated in 2022 AIC, such as Sierra Leone, Bangladesh, and other countries.

One of the FEB UNAIR teams won awards from various categories. The team consists of Salsabil Rifqi Qatrunnada (Development Economics Undergrad, third year); Yan Cerin Satmoko (Development Economics Undergrad, third year); and Bryant Ritchie Trisnodjojo (Accounting Undergrad, third year).

Bryant Ritchie Trisnodjojo, one of the team members, revealed that they won three awards from the category of paper, presentations to group discussion.

Promoting relevance of Green Economy

The third-year Accounting student raised the topic of developing a green economy based on sustainable energy and green industry, especially in providing inclusive promotion of economic growth in Indonesia.

“Our work topic: The Role of Renewable Energy and Green Industry in Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth in Indonesia: Environmental Kuznets Curve Approach,” he said.

This topic was motivated by one of the economic theories, the Environmental Kuznets Curve. In theory, economic development will result in increased environmental damage. However, Ritchie says there will be turning points where the damage will lessen.

“EKC has predicted an increase in CO2 in the initial stages up to the turning point. But, after it has passed, economic development continues, but does not damage the environment like in the early stages, even though CO2 is still there,” he said.

Link Sustainable Energy and Green Industry

Ritchie said that their team succeeded in linking Sustainable Energy and Green Industry. It shows the role of these two on sustainable environmental issues in the current stage of development.

“The green industry has a role in promoting and encouraging green economy and the environment,” he said.
