UNAIR NEWSUniversitas Airlangga (UNAIR) students have shown their international presence through three students from UNAIR’s Faculty of Health, Medicine and Natural Sciences (FIKKIA). They had the opportunity to present their poster at the Chulalongkorn University Veterinary Conference (CUVC) 2024 held at Samyan Mitrtown Bangkok on April 24-26.

Chulalongkorn University Veterinary Conference (CUVC) 2024 is one of the international veterinary conferences organized by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok.

The three students are Azhar Burhanuddin, Putri Laura Faradina and Nazwa Meiliza. They are students of the Veterinary Medicine program at FIKKIA UNAIR. The conference they participated in was focused on discussing the concept of One Health in Thailand and the SDGs 2030, with the theme “Integrated One Health Approaches for Sustainable Wellbeing”.

Azhar and his team displayed a poster on one of their collaborative research projects with the Banyuwangi Agriculture and Food Security Agency. The research was related to the pattern of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination due to economic risk factors.

Based on the research, they found that in Banyuwangi, FMD vaccination was first carried out on cattle and goats. “Vaccination is crucial because the impact of FMD risk on cattle causes huge economic losses,” he added.

They gained a lot of new insights and experiences at the conference. Azhar shared some interesting insights about the technology used in veterinary medicine, like skincare for pets and protection collars to help with parasitic ectoderm disease,” said Fara.

They also got to do a campus tour, which gave them a better understanding of Chulalongkorn University and the small veterinary hospital system there.

Nazwa expressed her excitement about attending the conference. “I’m delighted because I can meet great people. Both from vet backgrounds and others and taste Thai tea directly in the country of origin”.

Nazwa hopes that her participation in the international conference will inspire other students to join international academic and research activities. In particular, they are motivated to conduct research and disseminate the results of their research to have a positive impact on society, the veterinary sector and the environment.
