UNAIR NEWS – National Student Science Week (PIMNAS) is one of the prestigious events under the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). The competition is the culmination of the Student Creativity Program (PKM), which involved students from all over Indonesia. Firrial Eksa Maulidania Putri and her friends from the Family Planning Team made their mark at the 36th PIMNAS at Padjadjaran University, West Java.

The Family Planning team from the Public Health study program at the Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Natural Sciences (FIKKIA) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), consists of Eksa, Dimas, Ghani, and Devan. In their PKM entitled “Social Construction Study of Rural and Urban Communities regarding Family Planning on the Divorce Incidence in Banyuwangi Regency”, they analyzed an interesting phenomenon.

“The idea first came up when I attended the Generation Planning (GENRE) seminar conducted by BKKBN. The seminar thoroughly discussed issues and problems related to youth, early marriage, divorce, and family conflicts in Banyuwangi Regency,” she explained.

After attending the GENRE seminar, Eksa was saddened to hear that the highest divorce rate in East Java occurred in Banyuwangi. She then led an initiative to form a team to solve the problem.

The Family Planning team stepped up the pace in drafting the PKM proposal. Within three weeks, they managed to form a team, concoct brilliant ideas, and draft the proposal. Next, they had intensive consultations with supervisors to ensure the sound argument of their research, setting aside about a week for this.

“We used the remaining month optimally to improve the proposal according to the PKM 2023 guidelines and to receive administrative support from the UNAIR Student Affairs PKM team,” said Eksa.

Every journey has obstacles. The schedule of each team member is a challenge in itself. Moreover, with two team members involved in the Community Service Program (KKN) at the same time, they need to be smart in managing time and developing effective strategies.

“It takes tremendous perseverance and determination to reach the PIMNAS stage. We strive to conduct research according to the applicable procedures and ethics while praying to God to bless and protect our steps during the PKM process,” said the 2021 student.

The struggle that Eksa and her team have undertaken has yielded satisfactory results. They managed to qualify for the PIMNAS stage held at UNPAD. This success is inseparable from the support provided by UNAIR, in the form of mentoring, monitoring, and internal evaluation, as well as the support of the study program and faculty that provide all the facilities and necessities.

“On the way to PIMNAS, one of the things we enjoyed was meeting experts and academics who have experience and expertise in their respective fields. They gave us valuable new insights. Furthermore, we also enjoyed the moment of exploring new places with the academic community and friends. Of course, there is also a sense of disappointment because we did not win,” Eksa concluded.
