UNAIR NEWS – If you are still undecided about choosing a study program for the UTBK-SNBT entrance exam, here’s something you should consider. The veterinary profession in Indonesia offers vast career opportunities, making FIKKIA Veterinary Medicine an excellent choice. This program, under Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Natural Sciences (FIKKIA) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Banyuwangi, stands out among similar programs. For those planning to apply through SNBT, a minimum quota of 50 students is available. Moreover, various scholarship opportunities are open, including KIP-K, the Superior Scholarship, and partner-funded scholarships.

Developing Wildlife Conservation Medicine

Head of the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine Program FIKKIA, Bodhi Agustono drh MSi emphasized that Banyuwangi’s geographical potential offers a natural laboratory for wildlife conservation medicine.

This initiative aims to develop veterinarians skilled in treating domestic animals, livestock, exotic species, and wildlife.

“Wildlife courses are now mandatory and integrated with other subjects. During the Professional Veterinary Education Program (PPDH), students will also participate in fieldwork for wildlife studies both in situ and ex situ,” he explained.

On an international scale, FIKKIA has earned the trust to host On-the-Job Training for students from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Mindanao University, Philippines. This collaborative program is equivalent to clinical rotations in the veterinary profession, particularly in the wildlife medicine sector. In research, FIKKIA’s Veterinary Medicine program boasts the Animal and Biomedical Conservation research team. Its Veterinary Medical Journal, indexed in Scopus Q3, stands as the only one managed by a veterinary medicine program in Indonesia, demonstrating its commitment to global-quality education.

“We also collaborate with BRIN (National Research and Innovation Agency) as a strategic partner for veterinary research alongside our students,” he added.

FIKKIA Veterinary Medicine students actively participate in PB IMAKAHI and IVSA Global, broadening their professional network and enabling cross-campus engagement. Banyuwangi has twice hosted national community service programs, further enriching students’ practical experiences.
