UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) inaugurated four new professors on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Two professors are from Faculty of Science and Technology (FST): Prof. Dr. Nanik Siti Aminah MSi, Prof. Dr. Mulyadi Tanjung Drs MS, one from Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) Prof. Dr. apt Aty Widyawaruyanti Dra MSi, and one from Faculty of Law (FH) Prof. Dr. Mas Rahmah SH MH LLM.

Presiding the sacred ceremony taking place in the Garuda Mukti Hall, UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih SE MT Ak conveyed the significance of professors’ contribution to the institution. Prof. Nasih emphasized that their professorship would be the first moment of dedication and new energy for UNAIR through their work.

The work of a new professor will be valuable if it has been able to bring benefits not only for themselves. “I am optimistic that the new professors will also be able to bring benefits to the community, alma mater, science, and Indonesia,” said Prof. Nasih.

Potential Research

Prof. Nasih’s optimism emerged from the speeches of four new UNAIR professors. Three new professors from FST and FF, for example, succeeded in revealing the potential of natural resources native to Indonesia as medicinal ingredients. Moreover, Prof. Nasih said that 90 percent of the raw materials for national medicines are still imported.

“There is tremendous potential in natural products from Indonesia. And our three professors have proven that with efforts and innovation, Indonesian native resources can be very useful,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Prof. Rahma, a professor from Faculty of Law presented her research on intellectual property rights (IPR). Prof. Nasih believes that the research and findings can give protection to any innovations by Indonesian intellectuals in the fields of technology, health, and other fields.

Moreover, the four findings presented in the scientific orations are interrelated and support the sustainability of the research. For this reason, Prof. Nasih viewed the four professors as new energy.

“The addition of new professors equals new energy. And with that, UNAIR will be more advanced and greater in the future,” he explained.

The inauguration of the professors was attended by important guests from lecturers, researchers, professors, and campus officials from UNAIR and other institutions. (*)
