UNAIR NEWSUNAIR students have made another international achievement at Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. At the beginning of March, the Faculty of Medicine (FK) sent four students to the Land of White Elephants.

From March 4 to 5, 2023, the student delegations participated in the Siriraj International Medical Microbiology, Parasitology, and Immunology Competition (SIMPIC) at Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. It was the first-ever offline SIMPIC Olympiad post-pandemic.

The competition consists of several stages. The first stage was the written test with 40 multiple-choice questions for individuals and 20 multiple true-false-questions for the group. The next day, they qualified for the quarter-final with 12 multiple answers questions. Four groups were selected for the final round of the quiz game. The winners were selected based on the collected points.

The different competition system did not discourage the delegates. They diligently read and summarized the materials, working on the microbiology, parasitology, and immunology questions.

Their hard work ended well. The Faculty of Medicine UNAIR became runner-up for the group category. They were happy with the result, as it marked the faculty’s first achievement after participating in the competition for six years.

They also brought home medals in the individual categories.

The achievements include the gold medal by M. Yasir Syafa’atullah, the bronze medal by Marselia Febriyanti, and the silver medal by Maulana Bagus Adi and Garuda Nusantara.

“Hopefully, it will become a good start for the Faculty of Medicine UNAIR and encourage all the academicians to keep making international achievements,” M. Yasir said.
