UNAIR NEWS – Inspired by community service activities for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) processing milkfish, the team led by Dr Eng Patmawati SPi MSi, lecturer at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK) UNAIR created a fine fish bone separator machine called Meat Throne (MT) Separator.
“This idea was a request from MSMEs for their difficulty in separating the fine fish bone from milkfish meat in the production process,” said Dr. Patma.
This invention, which is still in the patent registration process, consists of three main parts: the meat separator, the driving motor and the transmission system. The separation mechanism in MT Separator collaborates the principles of cylindrical surfaces, compressive forces, and shears which produce crushed fish meat and fine fish bone in different places.
The custom materials made the machine construction process longer. The invention included in the Simple Patent Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) list is also supported by grants from the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (DRTPM).
In the future, the application of this technology will continue to be monitored and improved to make it more practical and able to meet the needs of processing fish MSMEs.
Dr Patma hopes this innovation can benefit the MSMEs or the community in processing fish with fine bone, such as milkfish.
“This machine is expected to improve the efficiency of time, effort, and costs in the production process of processed fish with fine fish bones, to increase production capacity,” she said.
The increasing production with improved efficiency and effectiveness indirectly increases the profit of MSMEs. Thus, this innovation, in the long term, can open employment opportunities and increase the independence of MSMEs. (*)
