UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) was one of universities attended the 12th Joint Working Group (JWG) on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. In the Indonesian-France forum, UNAIR contributed to the discussion on efforts to increase student exchanges between the two countries.
UNAIR’s representative was Rachman Sinatriya Marjianto BEng MSc from UNAIR Directorate of Information Systems and Digitalization on behalf of Vice Rector for Internationalization, Digitization, and Information. Rachman guided one of the thematic workshops in the event.
The thematic workshop was titled Information, Communication, and Technology. With Prof. Iyad Dayoub from Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France, Rachman became co-chair who guided the discussion of workshop participants from Belgium, Indonesia, Singapore, to France.
“One of the topics we discussed was the problem of the gap between student exchange activities and research collaboration between Indonesia and France,” said Rachman.
According to data, the number of French student exchange to Indonesia is still much lower than the number of Indonesian student exchange students going to France.
One of the causes of the gaps found in the discussion is the absence of an integrated system that serves as an information center related to various universities in Indonesia. Representing UNAIR, Rachman also offered the idea of a one-gate system.
“The goal is that French students or lecturers who want to go to Indonesia don’t need to open university portals one by one. With one gate system, all you have to do is enter one website, which has complete information on everything,” he explained.
He believes that this method can reduce the gap and increase the number of student exchanges between the two countries through technology and easier access to information.
“We hope that the impact will be seen in two years when the JWG is held in Surabaya. So we went to France yesterday not only to give ideas but also to take real action,” said Rachman.
Besides Rachman, UNAIR also participated in a thematic workshop entitled Biology, Health, and Medicine, which was attended by Abdul Khairul Rizki Purba dr MSc SpFK from the Faculty of Medicine UNAIR.
The bilateral forum was also an opportunity for UNAIR to meet with representatives of various universities in France and other countries. Rachman mentioned the great potential for research collaborations, student mobility, and double degree programs.
JWG is a regular Indonesia-France forum in the fields of higher education, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. This year’s event was held by the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France from Monday to Wednesday, June 27- 29, 2022. (*)
