FTMM’s ICATAM conference features global experts and academics

UNAIR NEWS – Highlighting its commitment to technological advancement, Universitas Airlangga’s (UNAIR) Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM) hosted the annual International Conference of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (ICATAM). This year’s event took place from Thursday to Friday (October 17-18, 2024), utilizing a hybrid format with both in-person sessions in the 10th-floor conference room at the Nano Building on UNAIR’s MERR-C Campus and virtual participation via Zoom.

The conference featured six distinguished keynote speakers, including Prof. Norhana Arsad from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; Assoc. Prof. Hao Wang from Monash University; Prof. Yasuaki Einaga from Keio University; Dr. Lilik Jamilatul Awalin from UNAIR; Assoc. Prof. Aini Zuhra Abdul Kadir from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia; and Prof. Tian-Hua Liu from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.

During his opening remarks, UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE, MT, Ak, emphasized that technology should not only drive progress but also serve as a tool for contributing to a more sustainable and responsible world.

Speaking virtually, Prof. Nasih emphasized that ICATAM 2024 is not just an international conference, but a platform for active collaboration. It unites researchers, academics, and professionals from across the globe to address the world’s most pressing challenges.

“I believe this event will foster thought-provoking discussions and generate ground-breaking ideas that will benefit both society and our beloved planet,” said Prof. Nasih as he officially opened the conference on Thursday (October 17, 2024).

Now in its fourth year, ICATAM 2024 focused on the theme “Harnessing the Innovation of Computational and Applied Engineering for Sustainable Development”. This theme reflects the conference’s aim to tackle modern global challenges through accelerated technological innovations that drive sustainable growth.

FTMM Dean Prof. Dr. Dwi Setyawan highlighted in his opening remarks that ICATAM represents FTMM’s commitment as an educational institution to fostering collaboration between academics and professionals. He hopes the forum will generate new ideas in science and technology to address global challenges.

“This conference is a concrete example of our efforts to create synergy and exchange ideas that will have a broad and positive impact on society,” said Prof. Setyawan.

The conference saw participation from around 100 attendees from various countries, as noted by ICATAM 2024 organizing chair, Mohammad Ghani PhD. Participants joined the event in hybrid format, with presenters hailing from Thailand, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
