UNAIR NEWS – The Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumni Affairs (DPKKA) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) recently hosted a webinar titled Developing Readiness for Organization and Future Careers. The event featured Dimas Bagus Satrio Aji, Area Manager at PT BFI Finance, and was held virtually on Thursday (July 17, 2025), focusing on the evolving challenges of the future workforce.

According to Aji, advancements in technology have already begun replacing numerous job roles. However, he noted that not all occupations can be automated. “There are many aspects that machines can’t replicate—such as our ability to think critically and adapt,” he said.

He emphasized that modern organizations increasingly demand individuals capable of collaborating across regions and cultural backgrounds. “People who can work across cultural and geographic boundaries must develop not only technical skills, but also strong interpersonal and communication abilities,” he explained.

In addition to collaboration, Aji identified two essential skills for workplace success: problem-solving and public speaking. “These are crucial in both team meetings and project execution,” he added.

Aji stressed that problem-solving is especially critical in dealing with fast-changing environments. It helps individuals identify and analyze problems and develop effective solutions. “Think of problem-solving like the GPS in your car—it helps guide your next steps,” he said.

He shared a practical method for building problem-solving skills: start by gathering all available ideas, then group and organize them visually. This approach can make it easier to analyze and address complex issues.

According to Aji, problem-solving skills must be developed continuously. Practicing regularly, cultivating a positive mindset, and learning from others are key. “You can strengthen this skill through participating in projects, organizations, and other group initiatives,” he suggested.

Public speaking, he added, is a vital communication skill in today’s job market. The ability to clearly express ideas in front of an audience not only ensures your message is heard but also enhances your professionalism and credibility.

To become an effective public speaker, Aji recommended getting to know your audience. “Not every situation calls for formal language. Understanding your audience helps tailor your message to the context,” he said.

He also stressed that strong public speaking requires emotional control and confidence. Practicing regularly—whether in front of a mirror or in small group settings—and engaging actively with the audience can significantly boost your communication skills.
