UNAIR NEWS – Family and Community-Based Healthy Mothers and Children Movement (Geliat Airlangga) held a program called “Refreshment to Improve Effective Vaccine Management (EVM)”. It was held to provide vaccination and immunization support in East Java from April 27, 2023, to April 29, 2023, at the Yello Hotel, Jemursari.

“With this, Geliat UNAIR, with the Regional Health Office and support from UNICEF, is carrying out this program to review programs implemented for the past year and ensure that the people of East Java get immunizations properly,” said the Head of UNICEF Representative for Java Bali Arie Rukmantara.

Generally, a government wants to protect its citizen with comfort and security in the health sector. One of the efforts is immunization.

Success factors of vaccination programs

“Good vaccination practices produce people who are immune to a disease. Herd immunity is achieved because the vaccine is good in terms of quality,” said Gito Hartono SKMM Kes, Head of the Surveillance Section of the East Java Health Office.

Vaccination does not stand alone to achieve a good result but needs the support of good nutrition, water sources, and a Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS). These three things are the most important to achieve a good vaccination result.

“These external supports, of course, make the vaccination or immunization program successful in achieving the target,” added Gito Hartono.

In addition, the community must continue to be given insight and guidance to have a willingness to protect selves from disease. Awareness from the community is crucial to the success of a vaccination or immunization program.

East Java immunization program achievements

With all the support from various parties, the East Java Health Office ranked second for best vaccine and immunization data management from March 2022 – February 2023.

“This is a matter of pride for us because we can maintain the quality and accelerate the vaccines and immunizations in East Java. I hope we can maintain this in the following year,” concluded Gito Hartono.
