UNAIR NEWS – Judo has become one of the most anticipated sports in the 2024 ASEAN University Games (AUG). Student athletes from various ASEAN countries are showcasing their top skills in this competition.
The judo events for AUG 2024 are being held at the Airlangga Convention Center (ACC), MERR-C Campus of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). Five countries—Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and Singapore—have sent their best representatives to this biennial event.
On the first day of competition, Wednesday, June 26, 2024, four weight classes were contested: men’s -60 kg, women’s -66 kg, women’s -52 kg, and women’s -48 kg. Here are the results for the men’s and women’s judo competitions.
Men’s category
In the men’s category, two weight classes were contested: -60 kg and -66 kg. Indonesia dominated both classes. In the -60 kg class, Indonesia’s representative, Tomy Darmawan, secured first place and won the gold medal. He was followed by Malaysia’s Muhammad Fareez Mohameid in second place and Singapore’s Bryan Tze Haeng Lee in third place.
In the -66 kg class, Indonesia’s Bustomy Abdillah claimed first place. Singapore’s Yujie Zhou secured second place, while another Indonesian judoka, Winner Felix Panggabean, took third place.
Women’s category
The women’s category featured two weight classes: -48 kg and -52 kg. In the -52 kg class, Malaysia’s representative, Nur Farah Izzati Wallah, defeated Indonesia’s favorite, Maryam March Maharani, and Singapore’s Shu Wen Yeo.
In the -48 kg class, Indonesia’s Meli Marta Rosita won the gold medal, followed by Cambodia’s Vandoeun Keo in second place, and Thailand’s Pimngam Ngamluan in third place.
