UNAIR NEWS – Technology and information develop exponentially fast. Technologies are created from inventions and innovations. Therefore, Instrumentation System Automation Student Association has held Internet of Things (IoT) design event for the students.
The event was attended by Lunde Ardhenta ST MSc, an electrical engineering lecturer. He stated that the IoT electronic circuit design is commonly used in the industry in the 5.0 Era. The event was started by introducing needed components in designing an electronic circuit that needs a printed circuit board (PCB) to connect them.
Lunde also explained the parts of PCB, which consist of some elements, such as components, pads, traces, vias, top metal layer, and bottom metal layer. All the elements have their own functions and are connected with one another to run the system.
Lunde said that designing an electronic circuit is not an easy task. Problems commonly found during the design process, such as those related to the physical design, should be anticipated.
“First things to do in design is to do with the component sizes which fit the actual condition. Then, prepare the required components to minimize the problems,” he said on Saturday, May 21, 2022.
Apart from the design flow or the electronic component, Lunde also explained the physical problems of design that need to be observed. Some of them are the component size and heat dissipation that must be considered in the process.
“We should know the required components. There are various types, sizes, and forms of each component. Pay attention to heat dissipation. Low power may be fine, but high power leads to troublesome heat dissipation,” he said.
Furthermore, the input, output, and mounting points become another problem. He said that these things need to be carefully observed and calculated.
“If the size and aesthetics side of the component have been finalized, but we did not pay enough attention to the source and power load, it will affect an electronic circuit’s input and output system. The result won’t be optimal. Avoid misplacing the component so that the circuit system can run smoothly,” he added.
Nowadays, people compete to invent and develop the technology, following the world development in the 5.0 Era. As the manufacturing industry heavily relies on technology, the knowledge about systems and electronic components will be continuously learned and developed.
