UNAIR NEWS – The Rector of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has inaugurated six new professors. The addition of professors, according to Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE MT Ak, is expected to support the academic climate on campus and make UNAIR a comprehensive university. The inauguration was held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, in the Garuda Mukti Hall, MERR (C) Campus, Universitas Airlangga.
In his speech, UNAIR Rector said that higher education tri dharma development is projected to be more excellent. The six professors are Prof Dr Noorlailie Soewarno SE MBA Ak, Prof Dr Wasiaturrahma SE MSi, Prof Rossanto Dwi Handoyo SE MSi PhD, Prof Dr Agung Sosiawan drg MKes, Prof Dr Dra Indrianawati Usman MSc, and Prof Dr Sri Herianingrum SE MSi.
“A comprehensive university is a university that is not only good and excels academically but also in research and development of science and innovation,” said UNAIR Rector, Prof Nasih, in his remarks.
Professors trusted with great tasks
He also added that becoming a professor will lead to greater tasks, especially regarding the development of the academic community in various lines. A professor is often regarded as an educated person who can be a source of reference for certain scientific studies. So, according to him, an educator must bear this responsibility.
“With their professorship, they assume certain responsibilities. These include conducting research, mentoring, and testing academic candidates,” he added.
Educators and information development phenomenon
The Rector also highlighted technological development, which aligns with developments in the world of Education. He believes the role of educators has a significant and linear contribution to the development of the world. Moreover, science can be a double-edged sword: the positive and negative sides. It is quite common for knowledge to be designed only to meet the interests of the capital owner.
He said there are many phenomena discussed with a positive tendency. When in fact, the reality is quite the opposite. Science is often used as a tool of manipulation. Therefore, people must be more observant of the information spread around them.
“For example, the growth of MSMEs is 50 percent or even 200 percent. While the growth of large industries is only five percent. Judging from the composition of the presentation, it might be true, but try to see the real reality,” said the Professor of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR.
He also hopes that the professors’ ideas can be realized so that they can provide real benefits to the community. In the future, Indonesian people will be able to become masters in their own country and even in the world independently.
“We hope that the contribution of the new professors can provide an alternative for a new world order can be more just, proportional, and this must be realized with lots of research,” he said.
