UNAIR NEWS – The Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes RI) has reported a significant rise in confirmed Monkeypox (Mpox) cases across the country. As of mid-August, a total of 88 confirmed Mpox cases have been recorded in various regions.
In response to the growing number of cases, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Mpox a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
“PHEIC signifies the severity of a global health crisis. WHO issued this status due to the increasing spread of the disease worldwide,” explained Dr. Kurnia Dwi Artanti, dr., MSc, a lecturer in Epidemiology at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR).
