Dr. Roziana Binti Mohd Razi from the University of Malaya discussed the impact of sleep disorders on jawbone development and tooth positioning in the Stovit Online Series (SOS). One of the sleep disorders discussed was Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), which causes airway obstruction due to the relaxation of throat muscles, disrupting sleep and potentially damaging health.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a common disorder that causes airway obstruction due to the relaxation of throat muscles. Symptoms of OSA include snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness, and apnea or choking episodes during sleep. OSA can also negatively impact heart health, mental well-being, and overall quality of life.

Oral Therapy Devices One effective therapy for treating OSA is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), which helps keep the airway open during sleep by blowing air. However, some individuals may have difficulty tolerating this therapy and opt for Oral Appliance Therapy as an alternative. One of the therapy devices is the Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD), which helps keep the airway open by shifting the jaw. MAD has been proven to reduce the number of breathing errors, snoring volume, snoring frequency, and daytime sleepiness.
