UNAIR NEWS – The post-truth era is a phenomenon where society places greater trust in information from influencers rather than experts in their respective fields. According to Angga Prawadika Aji, SIP, MA, a lecturer in Communication Studies at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), the rise of this phenomenon is driven by two main factors: social media and politics.

Influence of Social Media

Social media platforms have shifted the way people assess information. Rather than relying on research-based content, users often judge information by the number of likes, views, or overall popularity. This trend blurs the lines between fact and opinion, posing a threat to the credibility of scientific knowledge.

People increasingly depend on popular figures, such as influencers, to interpret the information they encounter. They are more likely to trust familiar sources of information without questioning the validity of those sources.
