UNAIR NEWS – Rabies is a disease caused by the rabies virus, a type of RNA virus (ribonucleic acid) that targets the brain and nervous system.
Characteristics of infected animals: Animals will experience changes in behavior. They become more aggressive, sensitive to light, salivate excessively, and may have changes in their voice due to tense muscles.
Symptoms in humans: Tingling sensation around the area of the bite. Followed by restlessness and aggression, sometimes accompanied by seizures. Sensitivity to light and water.
First aid: Thoroughly wash the bite wound with running water. Contact the nearest medical personnel.
