Latest achievement, Environmental Health Journal indexed by Scopus

Environmental Health Journal (JKL) UNAIR

UNAIR NEWS – Environmental Health Journal (JKL) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has made an achievement by being indexed by Scopus. JKL is a journal managed by Department of Environmental Health Faculty of Public Health (FKM) UNAIR.

“JKL is the journal originated by Department of Environmental Health. When I took over this journal, it didn’t have any kind of accreditation,” said Aditya Sukma Pawitra SKM MKL (EIC/ JKL Chief Editor) to UNAIR NEWS, Friday, October 27, 2023.

Established since 1967, Environmental Health Journal (JKL) had had a hiatus for a few years. In 2016, when Aditya Sukma Pawitra SKM MKL became a lecturer in FKM UNAIR, he was tasked to manage and be the chief editor of JKL.

“When I first managed the journal, it was not indexed and with my colleagues, I tried to improve the publication capacity. And after that, we aim for DOAJ 2017/2018,” he explained.

Managerial strategies

After being indexed by Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Aditya and his team intensified paper submission. It continued to be conducted until the journal was indexed Sinta 3 in 2019.

“In the last seven years, our strategies are improving quality of publications. And most importantly, we accepted publications from other institutions than UNAIR,” he explained.

Furthermore, Aditya stated that the requirement for journal indexing acceleration is the 80% percent publication from external contributing authors. It also applies for choosing editors, reviewers and journal management teams.

“Only four editors from UNAIR, the rest are external editors. The challenge is gaining trust so they are willing to write and publish at JKL,” he stated.

By providing free-of-charge submission, JKL UNAIR has collaborated with with domestic and international editors and reviewers, such as with Malaysian and Australian academics.

“Hopefully, we can attract more editors and authors. We invite our colleagues and other authors who want to grow together with JKL,” explained Aditya.

Environmental Health Journal (JKL) has planned to determine publication pricing. Considering the improving quality and quantity, Aditya said that JKL is also considering student internship program.
