UNAIR NEWS – To enhance the quality and global reach of scientific publications, Universitas Airlangga’s Institute for Journal Development, Publications, and Intellectual Property Rights (LPJPHKI) held a webinar titled Creating High Impact Publication through International Consortium. The event, conducted virtually via Zoom on Monday (Nov. 3, 2025), underscored UNAIR’s commitment to enhancing research capacity and fostering international collaboration among its faculty and researchers.

The webinar was opened and moderated by Prof. Dr. Dessy Harisanty, S.Sos., M.A., and featured several key speakers, including UNAIR Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, and Community Development Prof. Muhammad Miftahussurur, dr., M.Kes., SpPD-KGEH, Ph.D.; Head of LPJPHKI Prof. Ferry Efendi, S.Kep., Ns., M.Sc., Ph.D.; and Head of the Center for Environment, Social, and Governance (CESG) Prof. Iman Harymawan, S.E., M.B.A., Ph.D.

Prof. Miftahussurur highlighted the need to understand emerging research areas to ensure studies remain original, well-targeted, and aligned with global priorities. He noted that rapid scientific advancements often lead to research uniformity, which can erode novelty and innovation.

He further explained that identifying current research directions can be supported through publication cluster analysis using artificial intelligence tools such as the Research Horizon Navigator (RHN). This approach helps researchers map strategic research areas, expand interdisciplinary collaborations, and align their work with societal needs and modern technological developments.

In the second session, Prof. Iman Harymawan highlighted the importance of building international research networks to strengthen academic reputation and enhance research quality. He outlined four guiding principles for effective collaboration: active, building value, collaborative, and delivering. All emphasize active participation, shared value creation, and a commitment to producing impactful innovations.

Prof. Harymawan also stressed the importance of cultivating strong academic relationships by understanding the nature of one’s collaborative partners. Additionally, he emphasized that developing a strong academic personal brand is essential for researchers seeking global recognition.

During the third session, Prof. Ferry Efendi addressed strategies for developing international consortia in the health sector. He noted that global health issues are increasingly complex and require approaches that cross disciplines and national borders.

Prof. Efendi explained that international consortia offer multiple benefits, including improved access to global data, capacity-building opportunities for early-career researchers, standardized research quality, and enhanced publication impact. “International collaboration plays a crucial role in broadening visibility and boosting citation impact, allowing research to have greater global influence,” he said.

He pointed to the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Collaborator Network as a successful example, providing virtual training, educational resources, and collaborative opportunities for researchers worldwide.

Throughout the webinar, speakers agreed that expanding global research networks, developing interdisciplinary consortia, and understanding global research trends are essential for producing innovative, highly competitive studies.

The event is expected to motivate UNAIR lecturers and researchers to continue raising the quality of their publications, expanding international partnerships, and involving students in research that benefits society. These efforts reflect UNAIR’s sustained commitment to strengthening its position as a world-class university.
