UNAIR NEWS – Innovation in science and technology provides a practical avenue for students to apply their academic knowledge. This principle is embodied by RASENA UNAIR, a student-led initiative from the Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR).
RASENA is a research team focused on developing electric vehicles, particularly electric cars. Comprising students from various programs within FTMM UNAIR, the team was officially formed in 2022 with 18 founding members.
RASENA envisions becoming a leading and innovative research team in energy-efficient electric vehicles. Additionally, it aims to provide a platform for UNAIR students eager to explore the field of electric vehicles, with a specific focus on electric cars.
To achieve this vision, RASENA has outlined several key missions: to advance the skills needed to design, build, and test electric vehicle components and systems; to optimize research and innovation in electric vehicle development; to foster a process-oriented learning environment that encourages continuous improvement and collaboration.
Research and competition experiences
In 2023, RASENA competed in the Shell Eco-marathon at the Mandalika International Circuit in Lombok. Although this was their first major competition and the results fell short of expectations, the team gained valuable experience. They have since committed to ongoing technical and non-technical evaluations and improvements.
This determination paid off in 2024 when RASENA reached the finals of the Energy-Efficient Car Competition (KMHE), held at the Ancol Carnaval Circuit in Jakarta. Organized by Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbud-Ristek), the KMHE is a prestigious national event.
Beyond competitions, RASENA actively collaborates with external partners to enhance the quality of its products. One noteworthy partnership was with Alfagos, a company specializing in coating technology. This collaboration significantly improved the team’s ability to manufacture car bodies, underscoring their commitment to innovation and excellence.
