UNAIR NEWS – The Certified Internship and Independent Study Program (MSIB) provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the industry. M. Irfani, a student from the Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), secured a position in the MSIB program at PT Astra International, where he worked in ESG Data Management.
Irfani was no stranger to data science, having previously interned in the field. He explained that data science constantly motivates him to learn new things. Its application across many industries means Irfani continually encounters new insights and challenges in his work.
During his internship, Irfani managed ESG data across PT Astra International’s various business lines. This experience enabled him to collaborate with experts from different fields and disciplines, giving him the chance to absorb fresh perspectives and expand his understanding.

Potential of Data Science
Irfani sees data science as a field with tremendous potential to benefit numerous industries. With advancements in data processing technologies, he is optimistic that data science will become even more essential in the future. ” Especially with the rapid development of AI and emerging technologies, these trends will have a significant impact on the future of industry,” he said.
As Irfani continues his journey toward becoming a data scientist, he remains driven by the need to grow and embrace new experiences. One way he achieves this is by staying open to unfamiliar challenges and committing time and effort to learn. “The role of ESG Data Management was completely new to me, so I had to dedicate significant time and energy to mastering it,” he added.
Although he was an intern, Irfani approached his work as if he were a full-time employee, striving to perform at his best. He saw the internship as an invaluable opportunity to gain real-world experience early on. “In internships, we should treat ourselves like actual employees, ensuring we put in our best effort and achieve the most from the program,” he concluded.
