UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Archives has received the highest accreditation category, AA or Very Satisfactory, from the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI). This achievement makes UNAIR the only university in Indonesia to receive the AA category. The awarding session was held on Friday, Dec 15, 2023, at a Zoom meeting.
To UNAIR NEWS, Dec 18, 2023, Head of UNAIR Archives, Kiswari S Sos, expressed her gratitude. According to her, the highest achievement was the result of collaboration from many parties, including the archives department in each faculty and work unit.
“I am very happy I could make UNAIR proud at the national level. For this achievement, UNAIR is the only university that receive Double-A accreditation,” she said.
This achievement marks a significant achievement in the university’s efforts to realize efficient and structured archives management. By gaining AA category accreditation, UNAIR Archives has met the highest standards in archive management, including aspects of governance, security, and accessibility.
Assessment criteria
Kiswari also explained several scopes of the assessment, including supervision, archival development, management of dynamic and static archives, as well as archival resources. UNAIR archives always conduct internal archival audits every year.
“The assessment consists of two, external and internal assessments. The external audit assessment value is 60 percent. We also have to carry out an internal assessment audit for all work units within UNAIR, the weight is 40 percent,” she added
For external assessments, campus archival institutions will be assessed. Sampling tests were also done on work units. Later, the work unit will be assessed whether it has carried out the archiving process as regulated by the campus central archives. Criteria for archive rooms must also be met, such as air conditioning, thermometers, fire extinguishers, and sprinklers.
“From that, it can be assessed how the assistance process is carried out by campus central archives for archive managers in work units and faculties,” she said.

Need for digitalization of archives
Kiswari also emphasized that innovation in the archives sector is needed in the future, including digitalization. It will make archival management easier, both for institutions and the public who need the data. Apart from that, digitalization will also improve the flexibility of access.
“We can repair torn archives, the old paper that has turned sour or been eaten by animals. There is a technique for that. It’s in the university archives,” she explained.
She also hoped that with the achievement, in the future, UNAIR will be able to maintain and improve its archival performance. For her, archives are important documentation center for the running of an institution (*)
