UNAIR NEWS – Tulungagung is one of the regencies prone to drought. As a contribution to solving this problem, UNAIR Internal Medicine Alumni Association (IKA IPD) Tulungagung Branch and the Tulungagung Regency Government built a borewell.

The inauguration of the well is in line with the AMERTA (Action for Water and Plants for Nature) program which was held on Sunday, May 19, 2024. The event was held at the borewell site in Dusun Tenggar, Tenggarejo Village, Tulungagung.

Attending at the inauguration was the Chair of IKA UNAIR Tulungagung Branch, Dr Desi Lusiana W SKM MKes. She stated that the borewell aims to address the water scarcity problem faced by Tenggarejo Village residents. “This well will eventually supply water to approximately 140 households,” said Desi.

The well drilling initiative was started by UNAIR alumni who recognized the importance of clean water for the Tenggarejo community. “Thus, on October 14 last year, the drilling began. By the end of January 2024, water was finally obtained from the well and was declared to meet the requirements on May 16,” she said.

The well drilling project also involved Indonesian Society of Internal Medicine (PAPDI) Surabaya Branch. Chair of PAPDI Surabaya, Prof Dr dr S Ugroseno Yudho Bintoro SpPD KHOM FINASIM, mentioned that this borewell is not merely a physical construction.

Moreover, this borewell is also a manifestation of the profession of UNAIR Internal Medicine specialists to maintain public health. “This is not merely a physical building. But it is also a manifestation of our profession as UNAIR internal medicine specialists to bring benefits for society,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Acting Regent of Tulungagung, Dr Ir Heru Suseno MT, emphasized that this well was able to meet the community’s need for clean water. Considering the importance of this drilled well, he appealed to the local community to take care of it together.

“This is a very important facility. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the village head and the local community to maintain it,” he affirmed.

Heru hoped that the construction of this borewell could continue through collaboration among various parties. So, there will be more areas gaining similar benefits. “We will try to provide more benefits, including to other areas in need of clean water. This means a joint venture from various stakeholders, government, education, community institutions, and others,” he concluded.

Furthermore, the establishment of the AMERTA borewell is the result of collaboration between IKA IPD UNAIR Tulungagung Branch, UNAIR Internal Medicine Alumni Association, Indonesian Society of Internal Medicine (PAPDI) Surabaya Branch, UNAIR Psychology Alumni (APSILANGGA), Tenggarejo Village government, National LAZ, berbuatbaik.id, and Rumah Zakat.
