Owns 4 research centers, get to know UNAIR’s Sharia Economics program

UNAIR NEWSUniversitas Airlangga (UNAIR) was the first state higher education institution which established the leading Sharia Economic program nationwide. The establishment was a follow-up response to Indonesian human resources’ strong interest in sharia-based business and finance.

The Head of Sharia Economics program Dr. Bayu Arifianto SE MBA Ph.D. stated that though the program currently focuses on international activities, it does not put aside the national ones.

To UNAIR NEWS, he explained that the lecturers and learning facilities had been recognized with international standard quality.

Alumni employability rate

“The rate of employability of sharia economics alumni in professional work, especially business and finance, is soaring high. We constantly follow technology development and accommodate students’ passions,” Dr. Bayu said.

The alumni spread across the field of banking and entrepreneurship, and some of them pursue master’s degrees. Some alumni work in national institutions, like Bank Indonesia, Financial Services Authority (OJK), State-owned enterprises (BUMN), and the attorney general office.

International Accreditation

The Sharia Economics program consistently improves its quality in terms of education and higher education institution. Recently, the program has received ABEST 21 and FIBAA international accreditations with the highest Science and Technology Index (SINTA).

The Head of the Sharia Economics Department Universitas Airlangga Dr. Sri Herianingrum SE MSi expressed her gratitude for the achievements. It is the program’s action to improve the quality.

Dr. Sri and her fellow lecturers have formulated a strategy to improve performance through research, such as making research camps for lecturers and classifying those according to the Scopus index.

Research Activity

In the field of research, the Sharia Economics Department has established four research centers for academicians. There is the Center for Halal Industry Digitalization (CHID), the Center for Innovative Islamic Investment and Capital Market (CIICAM), the Center of Islamic Social Finance (CIFS), and the Center for Socio-Economic Islamic Boarding School (CSEIBS).

The program also provides support facilities for research, such as a banking laboratory, Islamic finance, and digital cooperative laboratory. These facilities also accommodate the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program.

The facilities allow students to optimally hone their sharia economics skills and encourage the academicians to conduct research for class assignments.

For information, UNAIR will hold an education exhibition, the Airlangga Education Expo (AEE), on February 3 to 5, 2023, at the Airlangga Convention Center, MERR (C) Campus.

AEE, which was first held in 2019, aims to promote the programs at Universitas Airlangga to students, teachers, schools, and parents.
