UNAIR NEWS – The world ranking institution Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released its World University Rankings (WUR) by Subject 2022. Universitas Airlangga is ranked in two broad subjects and six subjects. Moreover, several UNAIR subjects are ranked first in Indonesia.
The six subjects are Law at #101-150 global rank and #1 domestic rank, Accounting & Finance at #201-250 global rank and #2= domestic rank, Economics & Econometrics at #251-300 global rank and #1 domestic rank, Business & Management Studies #301-350 global rank and #4 domestic rank, Sociology at #251-300 global rank and #3 domestic rank, Medicine at # 401-450 global rank and #2= domestic rank. The two broad subject areas ranked are Social Sciences & Management with #232= global rank, #3 domestic rank, and Art & Humanities, which is ranked #401-450 globally and ranked #4 domestically.
In this regard, Vice Rector for Internationalization, Digitalization, and Information, Dr. Muhammad Miftahussurur MKes SpPDKGEH PhD, said that he was delighted that UNAIR’s position at QS WUR by Subject ranking this year had leaped compared to last year’s.
“This calls for a celebration from all of UNAIR. This by-subject achievement doesn’t mean that certain faculties are better than others. That’s not the case,” said Dr Miftah in an interview on Thursday, April 7, 2022.
In his explanation, he gave an example from the Medicine category. It does not mean a success for Faculty of Medicine only, but also for Faculty of Dental Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Faculty of Medicine Public Health. “This is an achievement from UNAIR collaborative works led by our Rector,” said Dr Miftah.
Furthermore, he said that the achievement is expected to have tremendous implications for the entire extended family and stakeholders of Universitas Airlangga. dr Miftah also explained that the university has made changes to its strategy to achieve its QS WUR by Subject ranking. One way to do this is by a brainstorming session with the deans in the faculties about the importance of by Subject ranking.
“The by Subject ranking will automatically affect the lower level (faculty, -ed ) in accepting new students and our reputation both nationally and internationally,” he said.
In addition, Dr. Miftah said that the university also focuses on the academic peer list and employer reputation that supports the by-subject ranking. “We do not just choose our academic peer list. This year, UNAIR also plans to focus on collaboration with universities included in the world’s top 100,” said Dr Miftah.
In order to continue to improve UNAIR’s ranking, especially at the international level, Dr. Miftah explained the importance of UNAIR internationalization by accelerating the inauguration of Airlangga Hub (UNAIR overseas branch – ed ). The existence of the Airlangga Hub is expected to attract more adjunct professors and foreign students to come to UNAIR. He also hopes for government support so that UNAIR will go global and be able to market UNAIR at the world level.
“This is our starting line to achieve something we have never achieved before. We are about to enter an era where UNAIR is confident and firmly believes that we are not from number two or three. This year, we are aiming to be Asia’s Top 100,” concluded Dr. Miftah.
