UNAIR NEWS – The Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) recently has commenced the Stovit Summer Course X Prosthodontics Summer Camp 2024. It saw a record-breaking participation with 43 dental students from various countries, held from Monday to Sunday (September 2-7, 2024). It is the largest international student exchange in the history of FKG UNAIR’s annual summer course.

The Stovit Summer Course X Prosthodontics Summer Camp 2024 combined two annual events that were previously held separately: the Stovit Summer Course and the Prosthodontic Summer Camp. The integration aims to provide a richer experience for participants.

Nadia Kartikasari, PhD, the event coordinator, noted that while the Stovit Summer Course has long been an established annual program, the Prosthodontic Summer Camp is a new initiative from the Department of Prosthodontics.

“We aimed to make this year’s event more special than in previous years. This year, we achieved the highest participation ever, involving 43 students from eight countries and 14 universities,” said Kartikasari.

The program featured a variety of activities, including clinical prosthodontic training such as the creation of artificial eyes, ears, and teeth, as well as community service activities that fostered interaction between international students and local communities. The faculty also collaborated with the Surabaya City Government to showcase local culture and tourism. This partnership included access to the SSCT (Surabaya Sightseeing City Tour) bus service, which allowed participants to visit various landmarks around the city.

The Stovit Summer Camp involved not only faculty members but also students and other educational staff, reflecting a spirit of inclusivity at FKG UNAIR. The goal was to create an experience that engaged everyone involved.

“Coordinating 43 participants from eight different countries, each with its unique culture, requires adaptation,” Kartikasari noted. “Every country brings its customs and perspectives, from Europe to the Middle East. We have learned a lot from this process. I hope that all the events run smoothly and that everyone, including the participants and the organizing committee, enjoys the experience.”

This initiative demonstrates FKG UNAIR’s commitment not only to advancing its international programs but also to strengthening its role as an institution dedicated to global education and cross-cultural dialogue.
