UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has just held a pre-departure briefing for the awardees of the 2021 Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) scholarships. Held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, the activity was attended by 25 awardees from various universities in Indonesia. The 25 awardees will leave for Singapore on December 27 to participate in student exchanges at Nanyang Technology University and Singapore Management University.

UNAIR Rector, Prof. Mohammad Nasih, proudly congratulated the IISMA awardees. According to him, the opportunity to study abroad is an extraordinary gift that we should be grateful for. He also said that the IISMA awardees are selected people who have to take advantage of opportunities optimally by exploring as much experience and knowledge as possible.

“The world is not linear, but there is a lot of variations. When we get the opportunity to study in many places or countries, our mindset will be opened wider. Therefore, we will have various experiences to solve future problems easily. He emphasized that diverse experience and knowledge are the best provisions to become a quality leader,” he said.

In this regard, Junaidi as the Coordinator of the IISMA program, pointed out two important things to the awardees. First, he reminded all awardees to always maintain their health and adhere to protocols properly. He hoped that no awardees would be exposed to the Covid-19 virus during their studies later. In addition, he also advised the awardees to enjoy each learning process well, develop the widest possible network, and be responsible.

“Learn as best as you can, keep having fun even though you might get a lot of assignments there, have as many discussions as possible, and be an awardee who is responsible not only for yourself but also for others,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Education and Culture Attaché (Atdikbud) in Singapore, Enda Wulandari, said that the duty of the awardees while in Singapore is to study and promote Indonesia.

“This program does not only aim to educate students but also to promote and give a positive image for Indonesia in general and for each alma mater in particular. Your attitude during your studies will represent Indonesia,” she said.
