UNAIR NEWS – Departments and study programs are the spearheads of university development. The departments and study programs uphold the Higher Education Tri Darma –the mandate of higher education institutions in Indonesia. To maximize the potential of the department and study program, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a work meeting with department heads, secretaries, and study program coordinators at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, Friday-Sunday, March 17-19, 2023.
Opening the meeting, Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih SE MT Ak reiterated UNAIR’s vision to become an independent, innovative, leading university at the national and international level and a pioneer in the development of science and humanities, which is framed in religious morality.
“It has always been our guide from the beginning. It is part of our endeavor to develop UNAIR,” said Prof. Nasih.
Develop research, maximize community service
To the participants, Rector said that in the past Higher Education Tri Darma activities at UNAIR were still focused on teaching and learning. At the same time, the incentives provided in teaching and education were quite large. However, this is not the case with research and community service.

“Because we have focused for a long time in terms of teaching and learning, we have an endeavor to develop or be more intensive in the fields of research and innovation, as well as community development,” said the Professor of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR.
The joint efforts that have been carried out have yielded significant results. In 2022, the world ranking agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released the World University Rankings (WUR) by Subject, ranking various universities based on scientific fields. Several scientific fields in UNAIR are ranked among the Top 500, Top 300, and even the Top 100 best in the world. Two scientific fields are ranked best nationally: Law Subject and Economics & Econometrics Subject.
QS WUR By Subject uses at least seven assessment indicators in this ranking. Among them are research, teaching processes, employability, internationalization, facilities, online learning systems, and innovation.

“This is all from your contribution. It is the result of the transformation we did. Not only intensive in the field of learning but also research and community development,” explained the Rector.
Minimize administrative affairs
Considering that the department is the spearhead of university progress, the Rector explained that lecturers should focus on educating themselves in the Tri Darma of Higher Education.
“We have wanted this for a long time so that officials at the faculty are not preoccupied with administrative matters. It’s time for administrative affairs to be replaced by computers or other supporting staff, “explained the Rector. (*)
