Reopening its summer school, Postgraduate School Director encourages discussion on regionalism

UNAIR NEWS – The School of Postgraduate Studies (SPS) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held its Online Summer School program for the second time. Themed The Future of Regionalism After Covid-19, the summer school was officially opened on Monday, May 30, 2022.

The SPS Director, Prof Badri Munir Sukoco SE MBA PhD, during the welcoming speech, invited the participants to use the forum for discussion, especially on regionalism which became a source of debate among academicians and policymakers.

“Understanding this regionalism is essential because since Covid-19 impacted globally, all economic, social, and political sectors are affected. It also impacted regionalism that is affected, and changing,” he explained.

A similar statement was stated by the Vice-Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs Prof Dr Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto DEA Drh. On behalf of UNAIR Rector, Prof Bambang hoped that this forum could be the way for academicians and international students to contribute to regional stability.

“Hopefully, the meeting of many international students and academicians at this event can significantly impact the community. In addition, it also increases the study of regionalism at the regional and global levels,” he expressed.

Furthermore, Prof Badri appreciated some institutions that started collaborating with SPS UNAIR during the event: the Indonesian Embassy in Kazakhstan, the International School of Economics Kasguu, and the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS).

In the opening ceremony, the Indonesian Ambassador in Kazakhstan HE Fadjroel Rachman, and the Dean of Higher School of Economics of M. Narikbayev Kazguu University Saule Kemelbayeva were also present. In addition, the Director of Ad Interim UNU-CRIS Philippe De Lombaerde gave the opening lecture.

After the opening, this event will last until Friday, June 3, 2022. SPS UNAIR noted that out of 95 registrants, 76 participants passed the selection to take part in summer school class. They come from 17 countries in the region of Asia, Europe, America, as well as Africa. Experts from various fields and countries will attend the summer school class. (*)
