UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga’s Postgraduate School held the 9th International Conference of the Postgraduate School (ICPS 2025) on Wednesday (Sept. 17) at ASEEC Tower, Dharmawangsa-B Campus.

This year’s theme, “Geopolitical Risk and Resilience on Developing for a Better World,” drew 198 participants, including 170 from Indonesia and 28 from abroad. Delegates represented 16 countries, among them were Yemen, Tunisia, Egypt, Pakistan, Ghana, Nigeria, Singapore, and the Netherlands.

Postgraduate School Director Prof. Dr. Achmad Chusnu Romdhoni, dr., Sp.THTBK, Subsp. Onk(K), FICS said ICPS, established in 2016, has become a vital forum for knowledge exchange, critical dialogue, and interdisciplinary collaboration. He noted that the 2025 theme reflects today’s volatile global landscape marked by political tensions, economic shocks, climate crises, and social inequality.

“This conference is about more than international cooperation—it is about producing research that directly benefits society,” he said.

He hoped that the conference would generate impactful publications and new initiatives that cut across disciplines and borders, with results felt inclusively at the global level.

UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammad Madyan, S.E., M.Si., M.Fin., emphasized the responsibility of universities in addressing worldwide risks. “Geopolitical conflicts and economic crises challenge our resilience. But resilience allows us not just to survive, but to adapt, innovate, and grow stronger,” he said.

He argued that resilience must be forward-looking and proactive, turning risks into opportunities for sustainable growth. Universities, he added, are tasked with producing evidence-based research, shaping policy recommendations, and preparing socially responsible global leaders.

“UNAIR’s vision is to be a world-class university, not only measured by rankings but also by real contributions to society through the framework of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals,” he said.

Prof. Madyan described ICPS as a meeting place for ideas and action, where academic dialogue can lead to concrete solutions. “I believe the discussions here will contribute to building a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future,” he said before officially opening the 2025 conference.
