UNAIR NEWS – The Public Administration Student Association from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), demonstrated its commitment to community service through a social initiative focused on senior citizens. Titled “Senja Ceria: Golden Years, Stories Full of Meaning,” the event took place on Friday (April 25, 2025) at Panti Werdha Usia, located on Jl. Undaan Kulon, Peneleh, Surabaya.

Social outreach to realize Tridharma

Agym Farhan, Chair of the JUARA Public Administration Student Association (HIMA AP JUARA), explained that the initiative provided students with hands-on experience in community engagement, reinforcing the core academic values of Tridharma. “This was a chance for us to practice empathy, share with others, and become part of a broader social solution. Tridharma isn’t just theory—it has to be practiced in the field,” he emphasized.

Aligned with SDG Goals 3 and 11

The Senja Ceria initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, and Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Through emotional support and interactive activities, students contributed to improving the mental health and happiness of elderly residents.

“Our goal is to help create an inclusive, age-friendly environment. A truly livable city should be welcoming for all—including our grandmothers and grandfathers,” Farhan added.

Meaningful engagement and future hopes

Rivaldo, Head of the Social and Community Affairs Department at HIMA AP JUARA, said the event was designed to foster empathy and emotional connections. Activities included finger exercises to support motor skills and health, as well as group painting sessions that encouraged creativity and expression. The outreach involved several UNAIR Public Administration students and was attended by dozens of seniors.

“We wanted to bring more than just assistance—we aimed to bring genuine joy, smiles, and a sense of connection,” Rivaldo concluded.

Public Administration Student Association hopes the program becomes a catalyst for nurturing greater sensitivity and care toward vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly. The experience is also intended to inspire local governments and community groups to develop more inclusive, targeted, and sustainable social policies moving forward.
