UNAIR NEWS – Solikin M Juhro, an alumnus of the Faculty of Economics (now Faculty of Economics and Business) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in 1986, has recently been appointed as the Assistant Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI). Dr. Solikin M Juhro, SE, MAE, MA, a native of Surabaya born on October 10, 1967, brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously served as the Head of the Macroprudential Policy Department at BI and the Head of BI Institute.
“In my role as assistant governor, I am responsible for developing macroprudential policy and contributing to the change of Bank Indonesia’s policy mix,” he explained.
Foundation from FE UNAIR
Solikin attributes his current career success to the foundational education he received at the Faculty of Economics at UNAIR. While there, he not only excelled academically, earning recognition as the best student but also actively participated in campus life. He held leadership roles, serving as the Head of the Student Association of Economics Development Studies (IESP) and as Vice-President of the Football Club (UKM).
These experiences were instrumental in shaping his capabilities. Both his hard and soft skills were significantly enhanced through these roles. He evolved into a mature and wise individual, adept at decision-making and socializing within the community. Furthermore, his involvement in organizational activities played a crucial role in paving the way for his professional journey.
“So, I embraced the role of being a student during my college years, which contributed to my maturity and growth as a group member,” expressed the alumnus of the University of Maryland, United States.
Holding firm to the philosophy of life
Remaining steadfast in his life philosophy, Solikin adheres to the motto, no pain, no gain, jer basuki mawa beya.” This saying conveys the idea that one cannot attain excellence without putting in hard work. However, it emphasizes that all attempts should be grounded in moral values, and the best effort should be given.
In addition to his career in the central bank, Solikin consistently contributes to the academic field. He serves as a special lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business at UNAIR and acts as a dissertation supervisor at the University of Indonesia and IPB University. Furthermore, he has authored 15 books, three of them published internationally, and boasts 35 Scopus journal documents, holding an h-index of 11.
Looking ahead, Solikin aspires for alumni to be a driving force for the progress of the nation and the world. He envisions UNAIR becoming a leading university in various aspects by cultivating excellent human resources for the future. Achieving this vision, he notes, requires collective efforts from students, lecturers, administrative staff, and alumni.
“Develop your abilities comprehensively, encompassing both worldly and spiritual knowledge. We must prepare ourselves thoroughly because future challenges will be more complex,” he said.
