UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) wrapped up the year with a strategic leadership meeting on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. Held in the Hall of the Management Office on the first floor of the MERR-C Campus, the meeting gathered university executives, faculty leaders, school heads, directors, and other work unit representatives from across UNAIR.

UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE, MT, Ak, opened the meeting with a call for collaborative problem-solving and forward-thinking initiatives. “We hope this session will focus on activity proposition. Several proposed initiatives are likely to gain approval. Therefore, if anyone has suggestions to address existing challenges at UNAIR, today is the ideal opportunity to formulate them,” he stated.

Prof. Nasih expressed his gratitude for the dedication demonstrated by all departments, faculties, schools, and other units throughout 2024. “The combined efforts this year have significantly exceeded expectations, propelling UNAIR to extraordinary achievements. This success is thanks to everyone’s hard work—deans, vice-deans, department heads, program directors, faculty members, administrative staff, and leaders at all levels. At 70 years, UNAIR has truly become a ‘70ss’ institution,” UNAIR Rector said and echoed by the meeting attendees.

The Rector also highlighted UNAIR’s growing recognition on national and international stages, with notable achievements in rankings such as the QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education, UI GreenMetric, and Webometrics.

The meeting also addressed critical issues, including improving graduates’ employability. Prof. Nasih underscored the importance of expanding extracurricular activities to enhance job readiness and integrating technology skills into programs with already strong employability records.

“We should promote targeted training, both certified and non-certified, to ensure UNAIR graduates are well-equipped for the workforce. For example, Brevet A/B certifications could significantly benefit students in Taxation or Accounting,” he suggested.

Another significant topic was the impact of university research. While data on publications and citations reflected positive trends, the Rector emphasized the need to extend research outcomes beyond academia to create tangible social and economic impacts.

“For research that has reached advanced technology readiness levels (TRL 8–9) and is ready for commercialization but lacks funding, we encourage submissions to our office,” he said.

These discussions were facilitated by Vice Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs (AMA), Prof. Dr. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto, DEA, DVM, and Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Community Development (RICD), Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, MSi. Faculty deans and unit leaders actively contributed ideas and solutions during the discussions.

Prof. Nasih reiterated the importance of UNAIR’s guiding principles and taglines: Excellence with Morality, Integrity Zone, UNAIR SMARTVERSITY, and UNAIR Kampus HEBAT.

“Our focus on Excellence with Morality includes implementing the Integrity Zone: Clean, Service-Oriented, and Corruption-Free. SMARTVERSITY reminds us to be strategic and innovative, while Kampus HEBAT encapsulates our ultimate goal of institutional excellence,” Prof. Nasih explained while presenting the draft visual branding identity for UNAIR in 2025.

He emphasized that achieving institutional excellence requires a community of individuals with integrity, reinforcing the interconnected vision that drives UNAIR’s progress.

The meeting concluded with a brief evaluation by Dian Ekowati, SE, MSi, MAppCom (OrgCh), PhD, Head of the Planning and Development Board (BPP). She announced performance awards for faculties and schools within UNAIR.
